Arbury Banks is Erbourwe 1313StJohns , Erborwe 1348, Herburghgate 1406Ct , Arboroughe banke t. ElizStJohns . This is no doubt OE eorð -burh , 'earthwork,' as in Arbury (PN Nth 13, PN Wa 79–80), Harborough Banks (PN Wa 289), referring to the old earthworks here (cf. VCH ii, 105).
