Acton Ilger (lost), Acton (e )1246 Ipm, Acton (e ) Ilger , Acton (e ) Ylger 1303 FA, 1327SR , 1361Ass et freq to 1659ParlSurv , Acton (e )Ulger 1417, 1439 IpmR, Acton (e ) Ilgore 1438MinAcct , Acton (e ) Ilgar 1492 Ipm. v. Iron Acton (supra ).'Ilger' from Ilger , who in 1086 held the manor from the Bishop of Coutance; Ilger is from OG  Hildeger (Forssner 162). The estate was held earlier (TRE) by Brictric son of Algar (who witnessed Wo charters, 1046–60 KCD 804–5, 925), but phonologically Algar (OE  Ælfgār ) is unlikely to appear as Ilger ; cf. Algar's Manor (infra ). This place was probably also called Grenacton 1322 Orig (v. grēne 1 ).
