Etymology

'Farmstead of a household', v. hīwan (gen.pl. hīgna ), tūn ; cf. Hinton (45supra ), and the f.n. Highnam field (infra ). It may have belonged to the old monastery of Berkeley, as hīwan is used elsewhere in Gl of a religious community (cf. Highnam iii, 159supra ).
