Thevenhope 1625 Inq, Thevenhope 1322 Orig, 1602FF , Theuenehope 1322MinAcct , Hopethoven 1622FF . 'Valley haunted by thieves', v. þēof (with a ME (SW) gen.pl. thevene ), hop . The combination of þēof with els. denoting secluded valleys and hollows in which thieves could lurk is common. But OE  Þēofa is also possible.
