Etymology

Kensley, Kensleyridge Inclosure, landeam de Kenesleye 1282For , Kemysley 1436MinAcct , Little Kenseley 1655Comm , Kensleys Edge 1612, 1692Comm , Kensleys Ridge 1830 M. v. lēah 'clearing'; the first el. is possibly the OE  pers.n. Cēn , but it is more probably a contracted form of some such name as Cēnsige or Cēnhelm . v. ecg 'edge, scarp', hrycg 'ridge'.
