Etymology

In DB it was simply described as ultra Sauernam 'beyond the Severn'. The name is from Welsh  cors 'marsh, bog', and is found in Corse Court (150infra ), Corse Wood Hill, Corsefelde and Corswelle (infra ), Corse Grove (148infra ); cf. also Lawn Fm (infra ). The name aptly described the terrain between the hills near Corse and the R. Leadon; Corsmersc was the low-lying ground about grid point 143–788265.
