Etymology

Lapley Fm, Lappelee 1231 GlR, Lappeleyebrugge 1315 Glouc, Lapley 1575TRMB . 'Lappa's clearing', v. lēah . The first el. is either an OE  Læppa , a possible variant of Leppa (Redin 99) or an OE  Hlappa proposed by Ekwall for Lapford (D 369) and Lapworth (Wa 288).
