Etymology

Probably 'Alhmund's farmstead', v. -ing 4 , tūn . The pers.n. is OE  Alhmund (as in Elmstone 81supra ). OE  Alh - in such contexts frequently becomes ME  Alk - (cf. Auckley YW i, 44, Phonol. § 36).
