Etymology

The fuller forms given above confirm Ekwall's first suggestion (PN in -ing 44) that this name derives from some personal name connected with OE  fyrst , 'first.' Thus, Fyrstlingas , 'the settlement of the people of Fyrstel .' Cf. MHG  vürstel , fürstel , 'prince' (Lexer). v. ing .
