Etymology

It is difficult to be certain whether the pers. name involved is Cuppa or Cubba , but it is more probably the latter, with an unvoicing of b through the influence of the following f . For the pers. name Cubba cf. Cublington (PN Bk 77–8), for Cuppa cf. Kipson (PN Sx 71). Hence, 'fold of Cubba or Cuppa ,' v. falod . The alternative name may be a corruption of the earlier one. More probably it is an independent alternative.
