Etymology

Bentall's Barn Fm is the Hall (Aula ) of Brendon 1349 Ipm, Brendhall alias Dynes 1428 IpmR, Brenthall 1620Ct , Bentalls c. 1840 TA. The district was called Brendon , 'the burnt hill' (v. brende , dun ), and the hall was first Brendonhall , later contracted to Brendhall . Cf. Bran End infra 458. The modern form Harl ). has been influenced by the name of Arthur Bentall (c. 1633
