Etymology

'Stag or hart stream', OE  heorot + burna. The addition West is for distinction from East Hartburn NZ 4217 further down Coatham or Hartburn Beck. Paule is a manorial addition from the tenure of the family of Ralph Paul 1568, VCH III 298.
