This name has the same first el. as Baggeridge (prec.), medial -n - no doubt reflecting an OE gen.sg. form in -an . The second el. is probably hamm 'enclosure'. For the late change Bagnam > Bagman , cf. dial. vemon for venom and the forms for the f.n. Newnham's 1127.
