Etymology

Selavestune (lost), Selavestune 1086 DB (VCHDo 3100), an unidentified manor assessed at 4 hides and 1½ virgates, almost certainly in Badbury hundred (op.cit. 3129) and, like prec., supposed by Eyton 88, 113f to have been in the old par. of Wimborne M.The second el. is tūn 'farm', the first is probably the OE  pers.n. Sǣlāf , although an OE  pers.n. Sigelāf would be a possible alternative (on Se - for Sige - in DB, v. Feilitzen 352, 360).
