Etymology

Like Affpuddle par. supra , named from R. Piddle or Trent. The manor was held by Walter Tonitruus in c. 1086 GeldR, 1086 Exon, by John Toneyre in 1268Ass , and by Henry Tonere in 1280 Ch, 1303 FA, etc. (the byname is from Lat  tonitrus , OFr  toner 'thunder', v. Tengvik 382).
