Etymology

Synderford (ST 383036), Lr Synderford Fm, Sinderford 1723 FF, Synderford 1811 OS, Synderford Ho 1841TA , cf. Syderford (sic)Md ib , 'ford made of cinders', from sinder and ford , cf. Cinderford Gl 2225, 3217.The form Sindeford 1244Ass (p) may also belong here. It gives name to R. Synderford, a tributary of R. Axe. The ford (marked 6″) is where the road E out of Thorncombe crosses the stream. Hr Synderford Fm is in Broadwindsor par. supra .
