Etymology

Bearhall Fm (6″), Beerhall (1″) (ST 353013), Berehalle 1377 FF, Beerhall 1811 OS, cf. La Bere ?JohnAddCh (p), 1254 FF (p), 1281Ass (p), c.1300AddCh , Bere l13HarlCh , Bera 1398ib , and also Robert atte Beare 1342, Thomas atte Beere 1356 both ib , from bǣr 2 'woodland pasture' or bearu 'wood, grove'. Note however that some of the early spellings may rather refer to Beere Fm (ST 378058) in the N of the par. which is identical in origin, cf. also the f.ns. Gt Beer , Lt Beer & Long Beer , Hanging Beer , Beer Orchd & Beer Plant . 1841TA .
