Etymology

'The farm of the nuns', from OE  myncen (gen.pl. myncena ) and tūn , alluding to its possession by the Benedictine nunnery of Shaftesbury. The earliest forms cited mean 'Gussage of the nuns', this place being only ½ mile NW of Gussage St Andrew supra .
