Etymology

A manor on R. Piddle or Trent (cf. Affpuddle par. supra ), once held by the family of de Musters (Richard de Musters 1303 FA, Richard de Mosters 1340 NI, Richard de Moustrers 1346 FA; earlier references to the family in this neighbourhood include Robert de Must (i )ers , Robert de Monasteriis c. 1165 MontC, Richard de Musters de Pydel 1244Ass ), v. tūn 'farm, estate', cf. Winterborne Muston in Winterborne Kingston par. supra . In 1306 (1372) ChrP there is reference to Mustereslandschare , Mustareslandschare , Mustareslandschere , 'Musters's boundary, the boundary of Muston', v. land-sc(e)aru.
