Etymology

'Lolla's or Lulla's brook', from an OE  pers.n. Lolla or Lulla and brōc . A pers.n. Lolla has been suggested for Lowleth Sr 381, Lowden W 91 (and a strong form Loll for Lolworth C 181). Lulla is well attested (Redin 100) and occurs in Lulworth 1123. One or other of these pers.ns. survives as the surname of Walter Lolle 1332 SR (Long Bredy). For the vocalization of l in the later forms, cf. Lowleth, Lowden loc. cit. , Lowfold Sx 133, etc.
