Etymology

'Hill in marshy ground', v. mōr , dūn , cf. Morden C 61, Sr 53, with ēast , west ; the spellings for the second el. show influence from denu , denn and tūn . The affix -Matravers is from the Matravers family of Lytchett Matravers par. supra who held the manor of East Morden from the 14th cent. (Hutch3 3511); the affix -Roberti is no doubt from Robertus de Porton 1226–8 Fees (p. 378).
