Newton Fm (SY 937932), atte Niweton 1332 SR (p), Newtonvia reg '1420Hen 1, Newtown 1811 OS, cf. Streets or Newtown Coppice 1838TA , 'new farm', v. nīwe , tūn , atte 'at the'; Streets is probably a surname but may refer to the Dorchester-Lytchett Minster road, cf. the 1420 form, v. strǣt .
