Etymology

Bulbury Camp (SY 928942) & Bulbury Coppice, Lr Bulbury Fm, Rough Bulbury, Burlebury , Bulrebury 1306 Ipm, bosco voc ' Bulberye 1567Hen 1, Burliborowe Woode , east Burrelbarow 1590Hen 2, Bullbury 1774 Hutch1, Hr Bulberry & Lr Bulberry 1838TA . The final el. is burh (dat.sg. byrig ) 'earthwork', with reference to Bulbury Camp, a hill-fort; the first part of the name may mean 'wood or clearing by the earthwork' from burh (gen. sg. burge ) and lēah , as is suggested for the f.n. Burlington (Burledon 1333) in Dorchester par. 1 361.
