Etymology

Probably 'raven's wood or grove', v. hremn , bearu , or 'Hremn's wood or grove' from an OE  pers.n. Hremn , cf. Renscombe 165, Ramsbury W 287. The second el. shows early alternation, or confusion, with burh (dat.sg. byrig ) 'fortified place', by which it is eventually replaced, cf. Haselbury Bryan 2100. For Ridge , v. Ridge Fm infra . The field called Ramsbury in 1840TA is just N of Berry Fm at ST 739118.
