Etymology

'The hide of land, an amount of land for the support of one free family and its dependants', v. hīd . The form Hydes is manorial, from the family of Roger de la Hide 1268Ass , Henry de la Hyde 1318 FF, John atte Hyde 1332 SR who in turn took their names from here. The affix Baret is also manorial; Henry Baret held land in Lydlynch in 1297 Misc, cf. also William Baret 1318 FF, Ivo Baret 1450 Cl.Hydes is near Blackrow Fm supra .
