Etymology

Probably 'Lēofwaru's wood or clearing', from the OE  fem. pers.n. Lēofwaru (Searle 333, Feilitzen 316) and lēah, as suggested by Fägersten 93. Professor Löfvenberg comments that the constant early spellings with u and o are noteworthy, and draws attention to the complete absence of similar spellings for Leverton Brk 304, which clearly contains this pers.n.
