Bidcombe Mill (SU 014094), Byncomb (sic, perhaps for Byttcomb )mill 1631 Hutch3, Bidecomb Mill 1811 OS, cf. Bidcomb Cowleaze , Bidcomb Fd & Bidcomb Md 1841TA , possibly to be associated with John de Bitcombe 1327SR , John de Bitecomb '1332 SR (Petersham in Holt), Robert Bitcombe 1435Midd (Woodlands), in which case the name may mean 'Bit(t)a's valley', from an OE  pers.n. Bit (t )a (suggested by DEPN for Bidborough K) and cumb .There was a mill at the manor of Gessic in 1086 DB (VCHDo 386), and other references to mills probably in this par. (some of them perhaps belonging here) include molend ' de Gusich 1268Ass , Roger atte mille 14Queens , Maud atte Mulle 1318ib , Cristina atte Mulle 1332 SR, Robert atte Mulle 1332 Cl, Terresmull '1444Queens , Cheryottes (myll )16Midd , v. myln , atte ; Terre - is probably a form of the surname Terry , and Cheryott is also a surname.
