Holme Priory

Etymology

Holme Priory (SY 899859), on the site of a Cluniac priory, a cell of the priory of Montacute (So), founded about the middle of the 12th cent. (a1165 MontC, v. VCHDo 280 ff), usually referred to as prioria , but cf. Cella de Holme 1535 Hutch3, Holme a celle to Montegue 1535–43 Leland. In fact the priory of Montacute had lands here as early as c. 1107 (14) AddCh , cf. also Sancte Marie de Holna Steph (14) AddCh .
