Etymology

Stickley Coppice (ST 714013), Stickley (Plant .) 1838TA , to be identified with (on an ) Sticholnelinche 891 (14) Glast (S 347(2)), Sticholvelynch '891 (1338–40) Glast, in the Anglo-Saxon bounds of Plush, 'steep ridge or bank', v. sticol (wk.obl. -an ), hlinc , cf. Understikeleclif , Upestikeleclif e14GlastE which may refer to the same feature, v. under , upp(e), clif 'cliff, bank'. OE  hlinc survives in the nearby f.n. Linch 1838TA .
