Etymology

Creketway (lost), Creketway 1774 Hutch1, 1863 Hutch3, Kriketesweie 1371 AD I, Crikettesway 1412 FA, Crykettesweye 1420 FF, Kre (c )ketway (e )1549, 1601 Hutch3, Cricketway (e ) 1549, 1649 a monor on R. Wey (v. RNs.infra , cf. Broadwey supra ), named from the family of (de ) Cru (c )ket , Cri (c )ket from Cricket So which had lands in Broadwey from 1269 (Hutch3 2485–7) and which is mentioned here in 1303 FA, 1315 Cl, 1327SR , etc.; it probably lay in the E part of the par. (Hutch3 2487); the same family no doubt possessed the 'lower water-mill called Criketesmull in Weye Ruwant '1392 AD I, v. myln , cf. Rowaldsway and Orchardesmull infra .
