Etymology
'(Woodland) pasture', v. bǣr 2 , or 'wood, grove', v. bearu , cf. Bere Regis 1273. The manor was held by Haket de Bera in 1176 to 1186 P, cf. Haket pater Hamonis de Bera 1194 P, William Haket 1203 RC, and the f.n. Hakettysknoll 1449DCMDeed (v. cnoll ); the pers.n. Haket is an AN diminutive of ON , OSwed Haki , ODan Hake (Tengvik 212). Alan Plukenet held a fee here in 1284–6 (Eliz) Kirkby, cf. also Alan de Plugenet 1290 Ch. Bere Hackett is ½ mile N of Yetminster.
