Etymology

v. hwit , ham(m). Nicholas Berchamstede held land in Tavistock in 1405 (Deed ). No trace of the name Dudruys , presumably a feudal addition, has been discovered. The name of this manor at one time survived only in a group of fields near Whitchurch Down, but has recently been revived in Whitham Park, a new district laid out in 1927 (J. J. A.).
