Etymology

Probably 'Bana 's spring,' v. wielle , though bananwylle , 'slayer's spring,' or even bānawylle , 'spring of the bones,' is just possible. Bannawell is now the name of a street in Tavistock. Cf. Banwell (So), æt Bananwylle BCS 612.
