Etymology

Latin Eugenius , which was borrowed into OWelsh  as Eugein , gave later Ewein , Ywein , Owein , Owain and Owen .Whether the Ewein whose name appears here is Owain, king of the Cumbrians, as identified by earlier historians of Cumberland, or the Ywain of Arthurian legend, or some unknown person of this name, cannot now be determined.
