Etymology

'the smaller hamlet of Sutton', v. lȳtel , parva . It is alia Sutton 'the other Sutton' as distinct from Sutton 1286ChFor (Great Sutton 193supra ). It was in the demesne (in dominicale ) of the abbot of St Werburgh's, Chester. Hallesutton is 'Sutton with a hall, the hamlet of Sutton containing the manor-house', as distinct from the 'home-' or 'village-' hamlet of Homsutton i.e. Great Sutton, cf. Sutton Hall infra , v. hall , and cf. Allostock etc., 2 216–17.
