Etymology

'the big(ger) hamlet of Sutton', v. grēat , magna , maior , micel . The prefix Hom - is ME  home (OE  hām) 'near home', distinguishing the part of Sutton which contained the major settlement from 'Hall -' or Little Sutton 195infra , cf. Christleton 107supra , The Grange Wo 297.
