Etymology

Bill Hill Bollinghull '1241Ass (p), Bylhill , Bill Hill 1572SpecCom , Bill Hill 1761 Rocque, Billhill 1790 Pride. Billhill, Billhill House 1619SpecCom . There is another Bill Hill in Easthampstead (24) for which no early forms have been found. The spelling in 1241Ass (which has been checked) precludes the association of this name with Billington La, Billingsley He, Billingshurst Sx, Billing Hill YW and Billinge Hill Ch, La, all or some of which may contain an OE hill- name Billing . A hill-name *Bullinge was suggested by Wallenberg (PN K 494) as the source of a lost name Bolling ', Bulling in Whitstable. The Berks and K names may, however, be identical with Bolinge Hill Ha (PN -ing 231), which derives from OE  bufan hlince 'above the bank'. The Ha name was Buvelynche 1288, Bullynge 1310–20. The contraction might have taken place earlier in the Berks name owing to the addition of hyll to the compound. The Berks name is that of the western tip of the ridge referred to in Ashridgewood supra . Bolinge Hill Fm Ha (in Buriton, near Petersfield) has a similar situation.
