Etymology

Sole Fm, 1806RecOffCat , The Sole 1550LRMB , 1761 Rocque, v. sol 'miry place', used of a wallowing place for animals, cf. Grazeley 166. This is probably a shortened form of the name Blakesole 1243 (m.14th) Lyell , 1243–4FF (p), which is identical with Blakeshall Wo 257, v. blæc .
