Etymology

Tubworth Barn probably preserves the name of (on ) tubban forda 942 (c. 1240) BCS 777, (on ) tubba ford 965 (c. 1200) ib 1169, in the bounds of Appleton and of Marcham (which include Frilford and Tubney, v. Pt 3). This ford, which is named from the same owner as Tubney, appears to have been on the brook called wasan (Pt 1 15), W. of Tubworth Barn and near the boundary of Fyfield. Later forms are Tubford 1535 VE (in Tubney), Tubberd 1553LRMB , Tubfourd , Tubbard Ford 1596StJohn , Tubworth 1828StJohnMap (all in Fyfield). Corruption of ford to worð occurs also in Longworth He (DEPN).
