Etymology
For etymology and earlier spellings v. Letcombe Bassett, 322–3. A number of the early spellings quoted there refer to Letcombe Regis, including Ledencumbe 1086 DB. Regis because it was owned by the Crown in 1086 and TRE, Dun - (v. dūne ) because of its situation lower down the valley than Letcombe Bassett.
