Etymology

Cannoncourt Fm, Cannon Court 1541 VCH iii128, 1597 ChanProc, Canon Farm 1761 Rocque, Cannon Farm 1790 Pride, cf. also Cannon Down 1609 Darby, Cannon Downe Feilde 1627PubLib (Clayton ), so named from the Augustinian Canons of Cirencester, who were given the estate by Henry I and retained it till the Dissolution.
