Etymology

'Valley-farm', v. cumb , tūn , a very common name which occurs twice in Berks, v. 360. This place is referred to as 'Compton (or Compton Parva)' in Kelly (67). John de Turburville is mentioned 1241Ass in connection with Westcumpton ', v. Turville Fm infra .

The valley in which Compton lies is shallow and wide, very different from that of Beedon, Pt 1232, 2 miles S.W.
