Etymology

v. Aston Upthorpe infra 511–12. Prewes , Priours from the abbey of St Peter, Préaux, which held land here from the Count of Mortain in 1086 (DB). The main part of Aston Tirrold was held from the Earl of Warwick by a man named Nicholas son of Thorald in the 12th cent.; he is referred to 1166 RBE and appears also (Nicholaus filius Turoldi de Estuna ) c. 1170 Abingdon ii211. The parish-name probably derives its present suffix from this Turold .
