Etymology

The first mention of New Shoreham is in 1151 when the church of St Mary de Portu was given to Sele Priory (SAC 10, 102). Old and New Shoreham were also distinguished as Great and Little (Magna and Parva ), 1263Ass . For Hulkesmouth v. Addenda xliv.
