Etymology

( lost ) is earlier Dudmandal l12 (15) Bridl,Dudemandale l12 (l13) Stix (p), eHy3 (p1269) Bard , Dudmandale alias Barton (sic)1537 LP xii, ii, Dudnamsdale (sic)1538–40 LDRH,Dudmandale 1633AOMB 390 , Dudman dale 1716Hill , Dudman Dale or Warren Farm 1796EnclA , 1822Terrier , and cf. “the king 's warren at Barton ”1300 Pat . The earlier name is ' Dudemann'svalley ' , v. dæl , dalr , the first el . being the OE  pers.n. Dudemann , which , it may be noted , occurs as a surn . , cf. Geoffrey Dudman 1332SR , in the adjacent parish of South Ferriby . The later name is self - explanatory and is in the extreme southern corner of the parish . It is shown on the maps in Rex C . Russell , The Enclosure of Barton-upon - Humber 1793 – 6 , Barton Branch , W.E.A . , 1968 .
