Spyway Barn

Other OS name in the Parish of Langton Matravers

Etymology

, 1811 OS , cf. Spyway 1838TA , Spyway Fm 1811 OS , Spy Hill 1774 Hutch1 ; the first el . possibly refers to the 400 ′ hill spur W of Spyway Barn , and the name should perhaps be compared with Spye Park W 252 ( which lies high and is ( le ) Spye Park e15 ) , and Spy Hill YW 6168 ( this reference is unfortunately not traceable ) , but cf. Spyway in Affpuddle par . infra ; Spyway Fm is now called Blacklands q. v. supra .
