Etymology

The manor of Langton Matravers formed the E part of this par., and Langton Wallis or West Langton the W part. The manor of Langton Wallis also formerly included Ailwood and Westwood in Corfe C. par. supra , Middlebere in Arne par. infra , as well as lands in Ch. Knowle par., E Stoke par. and Swanage par. (Hutch3 1634). Knaveswell was in Corfe C. par. supra in 1795 Boswell. A small part of Langton Mat. par. was transferred to Swanage par. in 1933 (Kelly).
