, cf. Spicket Hill & Spicket Marsh 1839TA , origin uncertain ; possibly a figurative or transferred use of ME  spicket ( from 14th cent. MED ) , a form of spigot ' a small wooden peg or pin used to stop the vent - hole of a barrel or cask ' , but perhaps rather a derivative of the word spēc ' brushwood ' suggested as the first el . of Speccott Barton PN D 100 and Speckington So ( DEPN, EPN ) : the cottage and lane lie on the steep N slope of Pilsdon Pen .
