Etymology

Harrop Pike, Haropes 12Crk (Nbn 3), Harhopes 1235FF , Harroperaise 1577Dep , Harrop Pike 1823 M. 'Craggy valley', v. hær , hop 1 , and pīc 'pointed hill'. The hop is probably the head of Little Mosedale, one side of which is strewn with boulders. The raise is a pile of stones marking the parish boundary (v. hreysi ).
