Etymology

The first el. is possibly a p.n. Heg-gill from ON  heggr 'bird-cherry' (as in Egholme i, 50supra ) and gil 'ravine'; v. skáli 'shieling, shed'. An ON  pers.n. *Heggjulfr is also possible.
